The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Just another summer flick, albeit being in China.

Yeah I said it, it’s simply yet another summer flick. Nothing serious or special to really look forward. You can expect mummy (this time there are actually like platoons of them), heroes & heroins, some jokers for comical effect and well, lotsa CGI. Action wise, even with Jet Li as the Dragon Emperor, it wasn’t that impressive either.

The story goes, pretty flat without much twist. The only difference compare to the previous two Mummy movies will be that it’s now Chinese lore instead of Egyptian.

Anyway, it quite entertaining for about 100 minutes worth about 5.0/10.0.

Think it’s kind of duh~! The first Mummy was fun, second on the Scorpion King was more or less cool as it built upon the first. Now, somehow, they decided to fly to China with the Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - starring Jet Li and Dato’ Michelle Yeoh in action with Brendan Fraser. Somehow, I think this may be pushing it far bit more. Oh, maybe because it’s the season of everything China, it’s Beijing 2008 afterall!

Forbidden Kingdom

It was great, but super dull on the wu-xia elements.

You put Jackie Chan (Lu Yan) and Jet Li (Silent Monk) together on screen, the least you could expect was a great fight between the two. That, thoroughly delivered I must say. Apart from that, there ain’t anything great to watch!

Why? It can’t be that bad you say? Certainly it was!

First, Sun Wukong was so sadly portrayed that it did no justice to the great Sage himself.

Secondly, how the heck is everyone speaking in English? Oh, Lu Yan said “That’s because you’re not listening!”

Thirdly, that ang moh was just so typical ang moh; guess Shaolin Tiger might have served as a better ang moh beng in the show.

Fourth, all the wu-xia elements and concepts were all wrong! Going for the Imperial Exam to become a Scholar would make you an immortal? Never heard of that – never!

Oh, I forgot, this was definitely one of those Hollywood flick meant only for the Americans. I must say that was that. Guess they’ve got no Kung Fu!

I guess I’d console myself on paying the ticket only for the fight scene between the two great, and that alone would give it a high 7.5 near 8.0. Overall, a weak 6.5/10.0 from me.
