Kluang Kakis 2008 Lang Tengah Gathering ~ 11 - 13 April 2008

Cover_rs

After a few years break from our Cameron Highlands Gathering, we are back again this year with another gathering at Lang Tengah.

Thanks to Old Mok - the organiser. He did a good job. Getting the whole gang to come together at one particular time of the year is no easy feat. Even though we still missed out a few from our gang, this gathering can consider as one of the better ones in terms of attendance.

We travel from different parts of Malaysia and Singapore overnight and met up at Kuala Terengganu where our pickup was waiting. One team travelled from Malacca to Nilai before gather with the KL team. The Kluang team took an overnight direct bus to Kuala Terengganu. The Singapore team crossed the causeway to meet up with the Johor Bahru team and took the night bus to Kuala Terengganu. (pst, told you it’s not easy feat, didn’t I?)

Spent one morning around Kuala Terengganu town before heading towards Lang Tengah.

The boat ride took around 45 mins. We spent 3 days & 2 nights there. Basically, it’s snorkelling, diving, banana boat, do nothing at the beach, watch starts, eat, drink, sleep and relax.

Of course, we go about our usual farney stuffs. The fellowship was good. We’d karaoke too. And we drank wine. Played ‘rami’ and mahjong. Quite a number of Gambling Queen around.

It may sounded ‘kinda bored’ and it’s all the usual stuffs, but I guess, it’s the company that make the difference.

Looking forward to next year’s Gathering!

And I dedicate the following pages of our happy times to the Kluang Kakis!

Strobist - in its simplest form.

IMG_5077_psed_rs
I took this photo on one of the evening where a sunset is not visible. The place is the sandy beach at the Guest House of Bako National Park. I’d wanted to capture the setting sun from this view. However, the sun is setting behind an island just in front instead. It lit up the sky with a orange & red hue. It’s a nice view. With my friends as my model (myself included) I went ahead to try some strobist shoot - albeit in it’s simplest form.

Strobist involved creative lighting setup - off camera flash. In my limited knowledge of strobist, this is the simplest form I can come up with. However, it’s without an off-camera flash.
I tried with an on-camera flash. I used Tv mode - simply chosed one shutter speed at 1/100s to freeze any motion we might induce in our posing and to keep within the sync limit. For Canon camera, the metering in Av & Tv mode will exposed for the ambient condition. I dialed down -2/3 for the ambient exposure. Then I turned on the flash and dialed in +1/3 in FEC - to have a stronger exposed subject. Set all up on tripod and pressed the shutter with timer on. Posed everyone within the 10 second time frame.

In this photo, there are 2 exposures. I purposedly underexposed the ambient to give a ‘night/dark’ feeling. Increased the exposure of subject, which will be lit up by the flash with the FEC. The above is the result. I did some PS to darken the ambient more and add some contrast to the subject.

That’s strobist, in it’s simplest form.

Oh, and in view of the current Panda Craze & China, I got my one of my friend to pose a ‘Crane Stance’ :P

Actually, it’s just to show you how it would look like when you only expose for ambient, taking subject exposure out of the equation.
